Journal 20

I'm most excited for it to be over.. not going to lie. I am excited for prom I've gone all four years of high school, so that's pretty fun. And my Taylor Swift concert in May, I'm pumped for that. I'm going to Alma and I'm cheering there, so I move in early and I'll be in Kentucky for cheer camp on my 18th birthday.. I will probably miss parts of high school, but then again I might not miss it at all. I'm scared but ready to start the new "chapter" in my life.

I thought it was an alright book. Some points it was hard to get into because he just rambled about weird things he shouldn't, like he goes into to much detail that I can't deal with it. I liked how he loved his sister so much and how much he missed his brother. My faveorite book was probably Great Gatsby just because it was easy to get into and it actually interested me with everything going on in it.

I feel like Holden swears to keep his "image" going. He does hate it and his sister Phoebe hates it too. It might make him feel more confident, like he's tough or something and that's why he does it. He tries to be someone else to different people hiding his emotions and swearing is just another way he can do it.

He lies about his name, and where he's from. Because he doesn't want people to know who he is and he doesn't want anyone to recognize him because he's back home. I'd say he's mentally unstable but it is smart considering he doesn't want to get caught because he's not going  home yet.

I have a watch, it was my grandpas who died almost 2 years ago. It's obviously old, and it's kind of tarnished because I haven't cleaned it or anything. My dad gave it to me and it's the only thing I have to remember him by besides the memories. I've had it for a year and a half i think. I used to keep it on my mirror but when we moved I put it in a box, so It's somewhere with the rest of my jewelry. I don't show it to anyone, if they see I'll tell them what it is. I love it because it was his, I'll probably never wear it but at least i have it.

To me Holden doesn't cope with the world around him. He's just kind of angry all the time, and he takes out all of his anger in his actions or in the words and ways he talks to people. Because he's afraid of dealing with problems and facing them. Maybe if he confronted his problems and or talked it out, and listened to what other people had to say he'd be less angry and feel better.

What did I learn from yesterdays MEL assignment? I learned that it's actually really easy to find books, let alone books that interest me. I don't think i've decided on a topic...? I forgot what the topic was for, and I forgot what kinds of topics.. I know that you have to use credible sources in order to make something more believeable, if you use sites that aren't you can't support anything you believe in.

Over break I was looking forward to having fun, and not doing my homework. Hanging out with my friends, like going up to see Britt. Going ice skating, going sledding. All the fun winter stuff I used to do when I was younger. I did go out and do alot of stuff but I also got sick.

MEL Assignment

List three books that intrest you for your choice reading book; including and a brief description of why you chose them.

I chose Something Like Summer by Jay Bell, it's about a young boy who struggles with the challenges of being a homosexual, who meets a guy that he loves but isn't what he expected, they hope to stay together through all the pressures of society and thier families. I chose this because love stories interest me and it caught my eye.

Home Sweet Home by Kim Watters is about a girl whoes grandparents left her their old bed and breakfast inn, realizing how stressful it can be she hires a man who had a buisness before and his buisness partner cheated alot of people out of money so alot of people don't like him. But he can help her reach her dream. I chose this because I thought the story would be different but it was something I didn't expect and ended up liking it.

Diamond Bay by Linda Howard is about a young widow who lives on a bay in Florida and a gunshot wounded man washes up on shore so she takes him in and heals his wounds and finds out he's a government agent who is now a target of the people he used to work with. I picked this one because I like stories that have some mystery to them, but also romance.

I feel very confident using this, makes it easy to find books that interest me.
